Blastball is a fun introduction to baseball, designed to generate fast-paced action, provide recreation and exercise, create enthusiasm, and encourage children to continue to be involved in sports. Blastball teaches all five basic fundamentals of baseball - hitting, throwing, catching, running, and fielding in a non-competitive environment. The purpose is for players to learn fundamental movement skills in a team environment and have fun!
Players hit off a tee and run to a single base while players attempt to field the ball and yell "BLASTBALL" prior to the batter reaching the base. No outs are recorded and no score is kept.
COACH PITCH DIVISION - AGES 5 & 6 YRS
In this division, players should plan to show up about 30 minutes prior to the game. Players will play a modified game that will prepare them for the regulation games played at the older levels. Other than some minor rule changes, (eg. runners cannot advance beyond their current base once an infielder is in control of the ball), the basic rules of Little League will apply. Sliding will be introduced at this level but base stealing will not be permitted. Consistent pitching received from the machine provides hitters a real opportunity to develop, and on the defensive side, players benefit from the increased action in the field.
MINORS DIVISION - AGES 9 & 10 YRS
At the minor league level, player pitching and base stealing are introduced. All basic Little League rules will apply with some slight modifications to enhance player development. In addition to basic fundamentals and team play, the focus of this division will be on starting to develop young pitchers and catchers. Teams in this division field 9 players each inning and all players are in the batting line-up. All players can expect equal playing time. This is the first level at which we have umpires to call balls and strikes, as well as outs.
All players must attend evaluation sessions. As a house league, teams will have players of similar abilities. The purpose of the evaluations is to create teams of equal strength. Evaluations are mandatory at this level.
