Bow Ridge Minors AAA All-Star Evaluations

Hello Bow Ridge Minors Players,

Bow Ridge Little League is pleased to be fielding a AAA all-star tournament team. The AAA all-star team will be selected from our top players of the 9-10 year old age group who have played minors this year.

There has been some changes in the format for 2017, which will see practices happen during the week and tournaments on the weekends. There are seeding tournaments the weekend of June 23-25, June 30-July 2, July 7-9 and then there are regular reason tournaments July 14-16, July 21-23, and July 28-30. We still don’t have much clarity on who is hosting the tournaments, but we aren’t required to play in all of them and we don’t intend to put a team in a tournament every weekend all summer. To the extent that tournaments are in the city, we will try to do them, as well as a couple out of town (last year, we played in the July long weekend tournament in Airdrie, a tournament in medicine hat mid July, and Prairies in Lethbridge). Prairies will once again be in Lethbridge on August long weekend (August 4-7).

Time commitment we are expecting will be:
  • About 5 days per week including games and practices (Friday, Saturday, Sunday games, then a couple of practice on Monday-Thursday
  • Participation in 2-3 out of town tournaments (including Airdrie, Lethbridge and 1 more potentiall)
  • Participation in Prairie Championship on August long weekend in Lethbridge

There will be additional fees for all players who make the team to cover diamond rentals, tournament fees and umpires. This is being finalized as we figure out how tournaments will work, but would expect it to be around $100-$125. The team will typically do some fundraising to cover any other costs (i.e. bottle drive). In addition to the fee, players/parents will be responsible for all travel and accommodations and any other tournaments that we may play in.

Since this is a short and intense training season, players are expected to demonstrate a commitment to being available through the entire time period mentioned above. For AAA All-Star selection, you must play on a league team, live or attend school within the Bow Ridge Little League boundaries and must have participated in at least 60% of their team's scheduled games during the regular season.

Try-out dates will be as follows:

Session 1: Monday May 29 5:30pm at Varsity Acres Diamond
Session 2: Wednesday May 31 6:00pm at Varsity Acres Diamond

Players interested in trying out should register in ONE of these 2 sessions. There is no cost to try out. Please register for your ID Camp at the following link:

http://bowridgebaseball.fikket.com/event/2017-minors-aaa-all-star-tryouts

You will be asked the following:
  • Name
  • What session you want to sign up for
  • Any conflict/vacation plans from mid-June to August long-weekend
  • Best contact email
Players will be evaluated and selected based on the following criteria:
  • All-Star tryout scores
  • Regular season performance (coach evaluation as requested)
  • Sportsmanship, attitude and on-field behaviour
There will be a cut of players after the May 31st session. Players who make the cut will participate in a second try-out on Saturday June 3rd at Varsity Diamond at 4:00pm. Players who make the cut for the June 3rd session will be notified via e-mail on Friday June 2nd. After the June 3rd session, the 12 player team will be selected. The 12 Players will be notified on Monday June 5th.

Anyone not interested in trying out for AAA but interested in the AA all-star team, or if not selected for the AAA team, can attend AA all-star team tryouts. These will happen at a future date in June once the coaching staff for that team is determined.

Any questions or concerns, please email the VP Onfield – Andrew Schnell at vponfield@bowridgebaseball.com .

Thanks
